It is a habitat to Red Tailed Hawks, Gila Woodpeckers, and Red Shafted Flickers. This cactus has various adaptations. It is able to expand in the rain to store more water, it has a great root system, has a thick epidermis and waxy cuticles to prevent water loss. The Saguaro Cactus is very interesting plant as well. For example, the average Saguaro Cactus lives up to 175 years old. Also, it can grow to be 60 feet and the largest Saguaro Cactus is located in the U.S.
